Professional Learning Support Teams

OPDE has made important strides with respect to deepening school leaders’ understanding of high-quality instructional practices aligned with faculty development processes that support teacher growth on effective implementation of such practices.

In support of the development of teachers’ high quality instructional practices, the roles of the school-site Professional Learning Support Team (PLST) and Professional Development (PD) Liaison were created to facilitate access to professional learning experiences for educators that are timely, relevant, research-based, and results-oriented. The PLST at each school includes an administrator, the PD Liaison, and other key leaders to ensure that professional learning services are targeted to address individual school and educator needs. During the 2013-2014 school year, OPDE trained over 300 public schools and 126 charter schools in the creation and implementation of PLSTs.

OPDE provides a scaffolded system of support for school, region, and district leaders that includes the expansion of a Professional Learning Support Team at every school in order to guide, support and monitor implementation of the Florida Standards and to strengthen teacher effectiveness.

This project expands and builds upon the role of the Professional Learning Support Teams to provide training and support for each school in order to ensure that professional learning services are targeted to address individual school and educator needs. Members of the PLST participate in ongoing training on the standards of professional learning, implementation and monitoring of school-based professional learning models, and the new district-wide professional development management system.
