M-DCPS Teacher LEADership Academy

The M-DCPS Teacher LEADership Academy (Leading Education and Development) is designed to challenge and support teacher leaders across the District in developing the andragogical knowledge, content expertise, and facilitative leadership skills needed to guide instructional improvements in schools. The program enhances the leadership abilities of highly skilled teachers as they facilitate the professional learning of their colleagues. The Teacher LEADership Academy also provides principals and assistant principals an opportunity to cultivate shared leadership and embed effective teacher leadership structures and practices within their school community.

With the Professional Learning Support Teams (PLSTs) fully implemented at each school-site, the M-DCPS Teacher LEADership Academy creates opportunities for effective teachers to lead through new career opportunities and advancement initiatives that promote professional growth and emphasize multiple career paths. Miami-Dade County Public Schools utilizes the structure of the PLST to develop a cadre of teacher leaders by clearly identifying differentiated teacher leadership roles in the areas of new and early career teacher support, professional learning and growth, instructional coaching, and digital innovation. The M-DCPS Teacher LEADership Academy addresses the specific professional learning needs of each teacher leadership role by differentiating the context, process, and content of the professional development provided. The model supports teacher leaders who lead from the classroom.

I think the PD was extremely informative. I feel I received personalized assistance that allowed me to better understand the new PD system.
I wonder how the teachers will receive the training. I'm hoping it will go smooth.

  3. I think... the MyLearningPlan is mush more user-friendly then the former system.
I feel.. users have more options to post and manage PDs
I wonder.. what hiccups we will encounter as we roll this out district-wide

    ReplyDelete
  4. I think... the MLP PDMS much better than the former system, but it will take folks a bit of time to get used to..
I feel... the use of this system will dramatically improve the quality of PD provided in MDCPS.
I wonder... about additional ways MLP PDMS may be leveraged to help divisions/regions evaluate their PD offerings and provide more targeted support to teachers' development.

  5. I think that this professional development needed more time to work on the system.
I feel that this will take time to implement to fidelity.
I wonder how the coaches will adapt to the new system.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I think that this process is streamlined and will prove easy to target professional development appropriately.
I feel that it might take some time to convince the teachers of the value of this, but as they get targeted suggestions for PD, they will like it more.
I wonder if the portions that require Master In-Service Plans will be converted into drop down menu offerings in the future.

  7. I wrote this blog post and lost it when I clicked publish...so here it goes again...

I think the MLP system will help us hold schools accountable for the PD that they provide
I feel that it will take some time to educate everyone on the new system.
I wonder of these trainings could be made into a webinar that people could view online.

  10. I think this is a fantastic resource for monitoring our professional development due to the fact that we can personally manage all aspects of activities..
I feel that this is a huge learning curve for everyone (proposers and participants).
I wonder how long it will take for us to be 100% comfortable with proposing and closing activities.

  11. I think this was the best PD I have attended on the MLP. The hands-on approach along with the documentation definitely answered a lot of my questions.
I feel I am able to share this information with my colleagues.
I wonder if printing instructions for multiple meeting dates will be added to the team room, as I don't propose many sessions with more than one day. I am afraid that I will forget the steps ... ugh!!

    1. Hi Daphne, you need to make a copy of the roster for each meeting date. All the dates and times will be included at the top of the roster. You will then circle the date for each meeting. You can find a sample of the roster on the power point.

  12. I think that MLP seems like a good system but had no experience with the previous system.
I feel that the interface is clean and intuitive
I wonder about the three part evaluation system.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I Think the PD was very informative.
I feel this will assist me in assigning a PD.
I wonder how user friendly the system is.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think this was a great training.
I feel that I will need time to "soak" all of the info in. it was a lot.
I wonder how the participants will respond and adapt to the new system.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think this PD was informative and I will be able to implement the information to my teachers at the school site.
I feel the teachers will have a lot of questions and really need support to register for PD's. I wonder if the new PD Liaisons will really feel comfortable proposing activities using the new system.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think that MLP will take professional development to the next level. The fact that there are now 3 components of the evaluation system will make it more meaningful than ever for the participants. It will really force them to think and reflect from what they learned, and how they can help affect student achievement.
I feel that I will be able to communicate with my colleagues at a later date to "catch-up" with anything that I might have missed in the PD. The fact that it was a hands-on PD makes it more beneficial to the participant to retain the information that was given.
I wonder how this whole process will play out with our teachers, and their responses after our PD in the Summer.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think this is a better system.
I feel a little overwhelmed right now with a lot of new information to process.
I wonder if teachers will complain about the new system.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Awesome training! MLP will have a lot of accountability and that's great. Practice will be necessary because its comprehensive.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think the workshop was EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL and I now feel confident that I can propose an activity with minimal mistakes!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think the PD was very informative.
I feel comfortable leaving with a resource binder to refer to.
I wonder how long this system will stay in place.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Awesome new system!!! Promotes the opportunity for us to work SMART while we are working hard. Love MLP!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. The MLP activity was very informative for me. The hands-on manner in which it was presented allowed me to see it, hear, it and do it which is important for me to do as a learner. I will need to practice and save drafts to make sure I stay current. More than likely, administrators and staff will need lots of training to ensure correct compliance.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think this MLP PD Training was very enlightening and informative. I really liked the fact that it was a hands-on learning training that allowed me to be able to follow along with the instructors as they presented all of the new and updated information. I feel as though the District will need to conduct a lot more trainings for the teachers, so that everyone will be able to adjust to this new system. I wonder if the teachers will actually go online and complete the Part 2 and Part 3 evaluations, especially since there is no reminder to inform them that these steps need to be completed.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think...that all employees in the district must be required to take this course. With people who actually know what to do.
I feel...It is valuable for anyone who wants to know how to plan and implement professional development.
I wonder..how many people will opt out of taking the courses for credit.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The MLP system will hold teachers and instructors responsible for the Professional Learning acquired during Professional Developments. Although the system will take some time to learn,I do believe it will be a positive change that will ensure educators are implementing and sharing information disseminated during Professional Developments.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think this new system will be beneficial to the professional growth of educators.
I feel this will take a lot of practice in order to master how to utilize this new system effectively.
I wonder if the district as a whole will embrace this new system and not use it as a compliance tool, but to use it to truly better our education system.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think the new system will streamline professional development in the district. I feel like there will be a learning curve for users (as there is with all new technology), but people will eventually catch on. I wonder about the reporting features that aggregate data and how district admins can determine which PD sessions are more effective than others.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think that the MLP system is very user-friendly and easy to navigate.
I feel that this is valuable for anyone who wants to know how to plan and implement professional development.
I wonder how the MLP system will impact the teachers that usually do not attend PD.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think that this MLP Training was very informative. I felt that by it being very hands on it gave me a better prospective on how to work my way through the system.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I feel this presentation was very thorough. I especially liked the follow-up component, for follow-up is key to learning. Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I feel that this system will be easier and more expedient to use than the old PD system.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think this was an excellent presentation. One of the features I wish the system had, was a checkbox that would identify if the participant is interested in MPP or Not. This would enable the instructor to allow all types of learners while keeping an accurate count of participants. As a district it would also be good for data analysis to see how many teachers really like to attend PD for professional learning without the MPP.
The second request would be to have the formula for a SMART goal right the request for it in the evaluation box, because many individuals do not know the criteria in writing a SMART goal. Lastly, for restricted registration it's a shame that it doesn't update the participants on the "in progress" status but it does for denied, this would be a nice feature to have for both status. Overall the system will have a positive impact on MDCPS ensuring appropriate accountability for the learning process for our administrators and teachers.

    1. I think the workshop was very informative and full of information.
I feel that the transition to the new system will take some getting used to, especially since some of the automated aspects of the old system do not seem to be in the new one.
I wonder how teachers will adapt to the new system requirements, specifically with the evaluation, which I think is excellent!

  33. Great presentation! Very knowledgeable of the subject matter! It was turn-key to take back.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think that although the system is improved, it is overwhelming and will need some trial and error to feel confident with using it.
I feel pressured to convert over to the system after years of using the old system...I will get over it.
I wonder how many errors I will make as well as those registering for proposed session will make until we all get the hang of it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think I learned a lot about how to use My Learning Plan. I feel I will need to practice it a couple more times to become proficient in using it. I wonder how teachers will respond to using the new system.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think the professional development was informative and easy to navigate through. I wonder if this platform and all of it's required components will deter participants from attending professional developments because of the additional follow up requirements.

    ReplyDelete
  37. The system is a little confusing now, but in the long run will be valuable for participants and those providing PD.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think the new system is more encompassing than the old one, but I also think that the courses I've been teaching are out of the scope of teacher/student professional development. My courses are for financial administration and the evaluation steps in regards to student impact are not relevant. Please provide guidance for those of us who are training administrators only.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Evaluations are assigned according to the component. There are three evaluations, instructional, non-instructional, and leadership. The financial administration courses will be assigned an evaluation based on the component you use when proposing the activity.

  39. Thank you for this excellent presentation. I find it very useful and completely understand why the fidelity of our professional development is so important. It will take time to become acquainted with it, but once the participants get on and explore the new system, they'll realize it truly is a great site. Thanks again!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Excellent presentation! I feel you gave us all the necessary information to go and start using My Learning Plan. It seems that MLP is an easy an effective way to propose courses and sessions.
    Thanks!!!

  41. I think the MLP process is more user friendly than before. The workshop along with the accompanying informational binder was extremely clear and concise. Once everyone becomes more comfortable with the system, the transfer in systems will be greatly appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I think we have a long road ahead.
I feel I am up for the challenge.
I wonder if my colleagues are.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think that this process is slightly combersome
I feel that most of the PD time this morning was wasted
I wonder how quickly people will be able to use the system properly

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think this My Learning Plan will have more capabilities than the old menu system.
I feel it will provide teachers with opportunities to track their own progress in a timely manner. I wonder if there will be any changes as to PD liaison being able to managing rosters without being an instructor.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I think that My Learning Plan will take time to become familiar with all users.
It seems to be easier than the current PD site.
I feel comfortable with what was presented today.
I wonder if for PD sessions that have already passed the two weeks if I have lost the MPP due to a lack of understanding of the new platform.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think that this MLP training was very informative. I feel that it will get easier as we practice and navigate through it ourselves. I wonder if eventually it really will be synced in with the. evaluation system

  47. I think that this will take getting used to.
I feel that the PD was helpful and draining.
I wonder what the impact will be on teacher evaluations moving forward.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I think this will take lots of practice to get used to. However, I feel that after a few runs through the system the process will become second nature. The only thing I am wondering at this point is how long it will take teachers to adapt and begin using MLP in an effective manner.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think this is not as complicated as I thought prior to today.
I feel that this will become easier as we actually use the system.
I wonder how my colleagues will react at the training.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think this is still a big mess.
I feel that though there was valuable information imparted, it was not organized and there was a lot of contradictory information, uncertainty and lack of clarity.
I wonder when we can efficiently produce something for MDCPS, recognizing the size of district, that will actually work the first or second time out? We are in the age of technology. This should be a very simple process.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think we're finally in the right track with PD.
I feel that this training was worthwhile.
I wonder how long will it take the District to staff the PD Dept. to handle the demands of the entire District.

    ReplyDelete
  52. System seems to be more efficient and superior to the old. Unclear about who is responsible for evaluating the SMART Goal on the first evaluation.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Participants create a SMART goal when completing part 1 of the evaluation. Part 1 is anonymous and does not need to be evaluated, the instructor will only check to make sure that it was completed.

It was a lot of information but I now feel that I can successfully navigate the new Professional Development site and propose a course and sign up for sessions with ease. My only wonder is how long it will take for the entire district to master this new system.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think this PD has been a very useful refresher for me, especially as it pertains to MLP. I feel this new system will enable teachers to be more reflective in their practices and hold them more accountable to applying what they learn. I wonder, however, how well-received it will be, Change is always scary, especially during this time of changing assessments, standards, etc. I wonder if, beyond the PD liaisons training them, there could be more widespread PD or resources that the teachers can attend/use.

    ReplyDelete

I feel very excited to be part of this new initiative with Professional Development. I absolutely love the standards framework of Planning, Learning, Implementing, and Evaluating for PD because it is reflective of the Continuous Improvement Model in the classrooms.

I wonder how many colleagues will be constantly knocking at my door.

  107. I think I don't know Haiku
I feel very sad (boo hoo)
I wonder about the traffic home...

  108. I think this new professional develop website is very high tech and certainly a great new resource for our professional growth.
I feel that it is overwhelming to try to learn so many new district changes at once. Teachers and administrators alike are feeling frustrated especially when you are an overachiever.
I wonder how many teachers are retiring or leaving the education profession because of the many demands placed on them in such a short time.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I think I can train others effectively
I feel that I understand it
I wonder if it will become easier

    ReplyDelete
  110. I think that this is way more work but a good system
I feel it will take time for others to get it
I wonder how much more technology we will be integrating into the school system??

    ReplyDelete
  111. I think this was a lot of information at once
I feel that all employees should attend a training on the new platform
I wonder how the teachers will feel about this

    ReplyDelete
  112. I think this is easy
I feel the training could've been shorter
I wonder if this system will last

    ReplyDelete
  115. I think I might have some difficulty training my faculty
I feel a little confused. this is a lot of information to take in.
I wonder if teacher will be receptive to this information.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I think the potential in MLP is tremendous, provided that teachers buy-in. I wonder why there doesn't seem to be much overt involvement by UTD on something this important. I know I understand why this is needed, but fear that the district-level commitment to meaningful teacher professional development has waned over the years, and is now primarily a function of online components and assessments. The trainers, human trainers that is, have been remarkable in their insights and knowledge, and should be acknowledged for their hard work and dedication.

    ReplyDelete
  117. I think that the PD had a ton of information, densely packed and intricate in nature.
I feel that there are going to be a TON of changes that may complicate my understanding of MLP. But, I also feel that playing the system will bolster my understanding and overall comfortability with the program.
I wonder what kind of push back that I am going to receive when I go back to train. Eek! But, I know that with constant reassurance and baby-steps, this system will be seen as a better more user friendly PD registration and management system.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I believe that the new system is fairly user friendly however, this training would truly be more effective if the training was broken up over multiple days for each of the different types of users. To expect a non released P.D. liaison and an administrator to oversee this task is quite unrealistic.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I feel that this training crunched three workshops into one. I wonder if maybe the teacher portion might have been offered separately, then one for the instructors, and last but not least, the PD liaison.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I think that this type of training should be done in smaller groups (+50 people is too many).
    I feel overwhelmed.
I wonder if anyone else wants to be PD Liaison next year.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I think the Learning Plan will be liked by most.
I feel that we should have left with a powerpoint to train staff on how to use My Learning Plan.
I wonder if teachers will complete all evaluations required of them.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I think the teachers will feel overwhelmed with all the information that I have to deliver in a short time frame.
I feel that I understand the basics of the MLP.
I wonder if the teachers will be positive and cooperative during my training.

    ReplyDelete
  126. I think this hands-on workshop is excellent
I feel that some instructors need to consider the technological level of the participant and work at a different pace.
I wonder if my staff will be able to comprehend and be successful with the evaluation process for MLP

    ReplyDelete
  127. I think teachers are going to feel overwhelmed with all the new changes.

  134. I think My Learning Plan is a great system but will require a lot of practice from teachers.
I feel teachers will be overwhelmed at first.
I wonder if they will avoid PDs based on the amount of follow up...

    ReplyDelete
  135. I like the format of the new program.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I think that the new My Learning Plan is going to be more efficient. I wonder if this kind of training can be offered online rather than face-to-face to avoid having to come all the way to the Center for Professional Learning.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I think My Learning Plan is a great improvement to the old professional development registration system.
I feel that it is important to support our teachers through this process.
I wonder if this system will discourage teachers from signing up for courses because of the steps that must be taken to complete the follow up activities.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I like the new MLP system. I wonder if the staff will be overwhelmed using it at first; particularly the non-instructional staff. I think the changes that have been made since it was first roll out in October. I wonder if people will be frustrated by and forget about the evaluations. The changs are truly appreciated and beneficial. Thanks so much for listening to everyone's concerns.

  139. I think this training served as a great refresher from the Sept. training on the new MLP system.
I feel that, as the PD Liaison, it is my role to guide teachers through this new MLP system.
I wonder what the teacher buy-in/feedback is going to be!

    ReplyDelete
  140. I think that MLP is an improved version or program for the implementation of the PD system.
I feel that it is important that the school system continues to provide teachers with PDs that will allow them the opportunity to renew their certificates. Universities are very expensive and teachers today will not be able to afford this. Also when the district provides a PD it is geared towards the student population in our district.
I wonder if this system will provide instant registration emails for administrators in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I think with the advancement in technology MLP is definitely the way to go.
I feel that for our veteran and non computer savvy staff it may create somewhat of a challenge.
I wonder how long this new system would last.

  158. This new professional development system seems to be user-friendly, however, time must be provided to our staff in order for them to truly understand it. We must also provide training on creating SMART goals.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I think...the new system will take some time to get used to (for the masses), but overall it is more user friendly and visually appealing.
I feel...like I am better informed re: this system than I was when I first arrived.
I wonder...how many questions I will have to field from teachers who are not computer-savvy. :)

  160. I believe that this new system is going to take some time to get use to. The new evaluation procedures will take some adjustments. I felt that this PD was rushed. Certain areas we spent too much time focusing on and others went by too fast.

    ReplyDelete
  161. I feel that the suggestions that were given in at the September PD were taken into consideration and great adjustments have been made.
I think the PD was well organized and the presenters provided us with many resources.
I wonder how the teachers will react when I present the new system.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I think that this new program is less complicated than I originally believed.
I feel that the faculty will need more than one training session on this, however.
I wonder how many reminders the faculty will need to remember to do Evaluations 2 and 3.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I think that the School-based MLP training will take more than one session.
I feel that we should be able to scan and send the attendance sheet.
I wonder how data center can make the scan and send possible.

    ReplyDelete
  172. I think training on MLP will take more time, I don't foresee being able to do it prior to March 31 when there are many testing trainings taking place.

  178. I think the new system will allow teachers to fully implement strategies learned from professional development.
I feel teachers will become more comfortable once they fully understand how to use the system.
I wonder how truly effective the new system will be on professional development.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I think the MLP system has many merits and SHOULD make the PD system more streamlined and efficient There are however many glitches that must be ironed out first in order for it to be widely accepted by the masses. Finally, there will be a lot of resistance to this new system as many do not see a need for it until the alternatives are explained. This should be the first part of this system explained every time MLP is introduced.

    ReplyDelete
